Power supply cut off in Palpa for three days since landslide brings down electricity poles

Palpa, June 22 (RSS): A majority of the places in Palpa districts have been shrouded by darkness for three days since the rain-triggered landslide uprooted the electricity poles.

The landslide occurred at Batase in Ribdikot rural municipality swept off a electricity pole while seven others fell off in other places leading to disruption in power supply in many places in the district, Rajendra Pokharel, a local.

Electricity supply has been cut off in three wards of Ribdikot rural municipality and eight wards of Rainadevi Chahara rural municipality and places in Bagnaskali rural municipality, shared Bibek Adhikari, Information Officer of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Department of Distribution.

In lack of electricity, all essential communication related works were hindered while works in government offices, health organizations, community radio and cottage industries were also affected as the electricity has gone off.

The government has eased nation-wide lockdown ordered since March 24 and allowed the resumption of economic activities since June 15 by taking all precaution against the COVID-19.

Information Officer Adhikari said that if the incessant rain would stop today, they would work towards fixing the electricity issue. The team of Distribution Department of Distribution are yet to reach the sites where the electricity poles have fallen off. However, all the teams are ready to reach the site and fix those poles once the rain stops.

Meanwhile, a landslide occurred nearby Mathagadhi rural municipality’s Agahakhola in Siddhartha Highway in the district has blocked the Highway since today morning.

All the vehicular movement has been disrupted along the Aryabhangyan-Ramdi road section of the Highway has come to a halt due to the landslide. The vehicles carrying essential services/supplies have been stranded.
